What is NCLB?

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is a landmark in education reform designed to improve student achievement and change the culture of America's schools passed under President George W. Bush. With increased demands of this legislation, Rockhaven Learning refuses to sit by and watch innocent children get left behind or miss out on the most important gift of their lives, their education.

Supplemental Education Services

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are free tutoring opportunities in addition to the instruction that occurs during the regular school day. These services take place outside of the school day either before school, after school, or on weekends. Any Title I campus in Stages 2-5 of mandated improvement must offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES) to all students from low-income families.

All costs for SES are paid for by the district. If the number of students requesting SES exceeds the amount of money a campus has available for SES, the district and/or campus must give priority to the lowest-achieving students from low-income families and should establish a fair and equitable criteria for identifying these students.

Who tells parents about the opportunity of SES?

The campus must notify parents of low-income students annually of information regarding the availability of SES. The notice must be provided with enough time to allow parents to select providers. The notice to parents must:

  • Notify the parents of the availability of SES;
  • Identify approved providers of those services that are within the LEA, including providers of technology-based or distance learning SES, and providers that make services reasonably available in neighboring LEAs; and
  • Briefly describe the services, qualifications, and demonstrated effectiveness of each such provider.
  • Describe the procedures and timelines that parents must follow in selecting a provider to serve their child.
  • Be easily understandable; in a uniform format, including alternate formats, upon request; and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.

Which provider can parents choose?

Parents may select any provider from the state-approved list as long as the provider is able to provide services in or near the area served by the district/campus. This includes providers that use e-learning, online or distance learning to tutor. Click on "List of Approved Providers" to see the list of providers offering services in Texas.

Steps to Securing SES (tutoring) for your child:

  1. Contact the school principal or the district's Title I Coordinator to find out if your child's school has to offer SES and if your child qualifies for services. Schools have to offer SES if they have been identified as being in Stage 2 or higher of Title I School Improvement.
  2. Contact the school principal or the district's Title I Coordinator to obtain the necessary form to sign up your child for SES. Be sure to turn the form in by the due date. Some schools hold Provider Fairs that parents and students attend.
  3. Research providers and choose an SES provider for your child.
  4.  Complete and turn in the necessary form for requesting SES services and choosing a provider by the specified due date.

No Child Left Behind / Supplemental Education Tutoring Services

Rockhaven Learning Center is a provider of tutoring-supplemental education services under No Child Left Behind. We provide group or one-to-one tutoring in math and reading, to prepare students grades 3-12 for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge & Skills (TAKS) test throughout the year. (Dates vary by grade, subject and location.) Our services take place outside of the school day after school or on weekends, usually one to one to two hours, and are provided to Title I campuses or any student that qualifies for the program.

FREE TUTORING is available to eligible students at no cost to parents under the Supplemental Educational Services provision of the No Child Left Behind Act. First, academic and learning style assessments are given to each student to determine their tutoring needs and the best approach and learning program. Second, a Student Learning Plan is developed and followed. Finally, their progress is tracked and parents are notified and kept informed of the child’s progress.*

*We recommend at least 8 to 12 weeks for measurable results.
